Canadian Art Newsletter - Spring 2015


On the evening of May 25th, Waddington’s Canadian Art Department offered over 180 diverse works of art for sale. Lots ranged in value from just $650 to $120,000 and were sourced primarily from private collections throughout North America and the UK. Highlights included a major Paul Peel canvas from a private collection in eastern Ontario, which was the top lot of the evening (Price Realized $141,600).

As we have come to expect, Group works attracted considerable attention with a 1929 Lismer of Georgian Bay more than doubling its pre-sale expectation (Price Realized $82,600).

Canadian Art Newsletter - Autumn 2014


On the evening of November 24, 2014, Waddington’s offered 170 works of Important Canadian Art. In less than three hours the auction realized $2.5 million. A number of works offered had been featured in gallery exhibitions across the country, and included rare and previously undiscovered finds, such as lot 58 J.E.H. MacDonald’s 1912 Tracks and Traffic (the canvas is in the Art Gallery of Ontario’s collection). Its conservative estimate and exceptional importance brought out a discerning crowd that bid this work up to $200,600 (all results include buyer’s premium).
